Talanta Hela Stadium edges closer to completion

Kenya’s largest stadium is taking shape at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, with the Talanta Hela Stadium now 40% complete. The government aims to finish the 60,000-seater facility by the end of the year, marking the country's most significant sports infrastructure project in 45 years. Officials confirmed the progress during a cabinet meeting, with the stadium set to serve as a key venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya’s most ambitious sports infrastructure project, the Talanta Hela Stadium, is now 40% complete, with the government aiming to finish construction by the end of the year.

The progress was confirmed during a cabinet meeting today, where officials were briefed on the ongoing works at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi. Once completed, the 60,000-seater stadium will be the country’s largest, surpassing Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

“The cabinet was also briefed on the progress of the Talanta Hela Stadium at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, which is now 40% complete. Once finished, the 60,000-seater stadium will be Kenya’s largest, with the government aiming to complete it by the end of this year,” a dispatch from the meeting stated.

This marks a historic moment for Kenya’s sporting landscape, as it has been 45 years since the country last built a stadium of such magnitude. Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, completed in 1981, remains the most recent major facility of its kind.

“This underscores the government’s commitment to modernising sports infrastructure. The last time a stadium of this scale was built in Kenya was 45 years ago - Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani - making Talanta Hela a landmark achievement in the country’s sporting history,” the dispatch added.

The stadium is expected to serve as one of the venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
